An Osogbo Magistrate's Court has sentenced a 40-year-old herbalist, Adeboye Moshood to four years and six months Imprisonment for allegedly being possession of human parts.
The Court found Moshood guilty of unlawful possession of human parts and improperly interfering with the corpse of a dead person.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Fatoba Temitope, had told the court that a team of the Joint Task Force caught the convict with the body parts along Gbongan Road in the state.
Temitope said that after being cought the herbalist confessed that he was going to use the human parts for a money ritual after exhuming them at a cemetery.
The charge brought against the convict reads that “Adeboye Moshood and others now at large, on the 16th day of February, 2021 at about 9am at Gbongan in the Gbongan Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit a misdemeanor to wit: misconduct with regard to corpse and unlawful possession of human parts and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
“You did improperly or indecently interfere with the corpse of a dead human body and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 242 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
“You unlawfully have in your possession two human legs and other parts and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 430(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”
The convict, who had pleaded guilty to the three counts later pleaded not guilty.
After the hearing, Magistrate F. Omisade found Moshood guilty as charged.
She convicted him and sentenced to two years imprisonment on the first count.
The magistrate also jailed him six months on the second count and two years on the third count.
