Court remands 36-year-old man for unlawful possession of arms in Osun

 


An Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, has remanded a 36-year-old man, Yusuf Hammed in Ilesa Correctional Centre over alleged unlawful possession of firearms.


On Tuesday, the defendant was dragged before Magistrate, Olusegun Ayilara on a three count-charge bordering on conspiracy, and unlawful possession of firearm and cartridge.


Police Prosecutor, Inspector Fatoba Temitope told the court that the defendant conspired to possess one locally cut-to-size single barrel and two live cartridges which he could not give satisfactory account.


Temitope alleged that the defendant committed the offence on the 9th of August 2022, In front of House of Assembly complex Abere Area Osogbo Area, Osun State.


He said, the defendant committed the alleged crimes in contravention of Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002 and contrary to section 4 and punishable under section 27(1) b (1) of the Firearms Act Cap f.28 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2004.


The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the three count-charge.


The presiding Magistrate, Ayilara, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and directed defence counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo, to file a formal application for the bail of his client.


The case was subsequently adjourned to September 5 for mention.
